Lights
Using different kinds of lighted Christmas window decorations is a traditional idea, but you can convert it into a modern one by modifying it a little. Instead of having the usual series and garlands of Christmas lights all around your house, this year try something out of the way. Use the garlands to form an outline of Santa Claus. Or make a Christmas tree using them. You can also get some lighted angels or stars from the stores and place them strategically on the glass of the windows so that they replicate the stars and angels in the night sky. Alternatively, you can place a bunch of small, wide candles on the window sill. Place them in a pretty tray with some holly leaves and berries. Keep the tray inside the window, and make sure the drapes are pulled well away from the candles.
Wreaths
Another Christmas window decorations is Christmas wreaths. There are different designs and patterns of outdoor wreaths available in the market. They are made using different materials and different styles. You can experiment with small wreaths for your windows. Or if you would rather stick to the basic holly and berry wreath, choose a real and fresh one. Artificial ones may last longer but it's only a real one that will give you the true Christmas feel. Make sure you change the wreath when it begins to wilt. Else, your windows will look really ugly and depressing.
Ornaments
Christmas ornaments are another perfect option for decorating your windows. There is such a wide range of ornaments to choose from. You can have a snowflake themed window decoration, with sparkling glass snow flakes. Or you can have a cheery Santa flying on his reindeer drawn sleigh. You can also have some bejeweled candy canes, decorative stockings, star lanterns, etc. Another thing you can try is place a stained glass vase depicting Christmas filled with fresh poinsettias in all your windows.
Crib
This is an idea I've seen at a friend's home. It requires a wide window sill. What they do is, using homemade Christmas decorations, they design a decoration depicting the manger in which Jesus was born. You'll need hay, a miniature hut, Christmas figurines for Mother Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, angels, the three kings, shepherds, sheep, rabbits, goats, other livestock and a bright and shiny star hung at the top. Keep a picture of the birth of Jesus for reference and replicate it using the materials that you have. Place it on the window sill, with a spot light directly pointed at it. It is truly one of the best Christmas decorations for your window.
